Some People Don't Want You to Protect Yourself

Amazing how people in the US react to a story like this. It was reported on January 1, 2012 that a teenage mother who lost her husband just a week ago to cancer was forced to shoot and kill an intruder after a "911 operator said she was allowed to defend her infant son and herself with force."

Sarah McKinley, 18, killed Justin Martin with a single gunshot wound on New Year's Eve when he forced his way into her Blanchard, OK home and charging toward her and her son with a long hunting knife. Martin appeared at her door on the day of her husband's funeral which was a few days before the shooting. It is reported that he claimed he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello, but she refused to open the door.

Apparently this joker decided to go back to the house with an accomplice on December 31, and forced their way in. When McKinley heard the men breaking in, she called 911 and quickly took refuge in her bedroom with a 12-gauge shotgun and a pistola, (my kind of gal). She put a bottle in her three-month-old son's mouth, and blocked the bedroom door with a couch.

She  reportedly said to the 911 operator "I've got two guns in my hand" and  asked "Is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?" The operator replied "I can't tell you that you can do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," after she asked the operator a second time. The emergency call went on for 21 minutes as the men broke in.

Subsequently, Martin pushed his way into the bedroom and she shot him once.
Naturally there were her supporters who were glad to hear that McKinley will not be facing any charges, but there are a few who take the position that it was wrong to kill the guy trying to kill you and/or your baby. Is that crazy or what?

I believe that you have the right to defend yourself, for it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by six. If you are one of those opposed to he having a gun, well just place a sign on your front yard that reads "THIS HOUSE HAS NO GUNS" and email next week with your new thoughts on this issue. As for me and my house, I'll leave them guessing.

(Look up M4).
